UnFold Privacy Policy

Last Updated: May 15, 2026

What this policy says in plain English

  • UnFold is a user-directed transparency tool. We do not passively scan or index the contents of your inbox. Our extension only processes a specific communication when you explicitly initiate a trigger while viewing it on mail.google.com.
  • We do not send email on your behalf. Every communication draft generated by the tool is handed off to your browser’s normal compose window for you to review, edit, and send yourself. You retain final human authorship.
  • We do not sell your personal information. Any data that can be traced back to your identity stays locked within your account.
  • We support systemic accountability through aggregate data. UnFold generates anonymized, aggregated labor-market insights to highlight broad employer responsiveness trends. This aggregate dataset contains no personal identifiers and cannot be used to re-identify you.
  • United States Use Only. UnFold is designed around U.S. legal frameworks and is intended exclusively for residents of the United States.

1. Who We Are and What UnFold Does

UnFold provides a platform for transparency, organizational continuity, and personal record-keeping during the job search process. UnFold is not a law firm, litigation support service, or legal counsel, and does not provide legal or HR advice. The platform provides users with automated drafting templates and history tools to independently navigate hiring communications. Decisions regarding whether to initiate an inquiry, how to edit generated text, and whether to utilize your saved history for subsequent administrative or legal proceedings are entirely at your sole discretion and responsibility.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Explicitly Provide

  • Account Information: When you authenticate your account via our infrastructure provider, we collect your email address and your chosen jurisdiction settings.
  • User-Directed Saved History: Data is only captured and retained in your account when you explicitly click the “Log Response” or “Request Disclosure” buttons. This includes the pre-filled template type used, the recipient email domain, and the response status you log.
  • Professional Resources Opt-In: If you choose to opt in to receive professional resources or future platform updates, we store your email address for communication purposes.

2.2 Information Generated Automatically

  • Audit & Integrity Logs: To ensure system integrity and protect against the misuse of our automated tools, UnFold maintains a non-identifying “Logic Log” for three years. This log records the system parameters used and a clinical metric indicating whether you modified a draft. It does not store the final text of your sent communications.
  • De-Identified Structural Metadata: To support product behavior, the system tracks lightweight activity timestamps truncated to month/year and generalizes specific job titles into broad categories.

2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not passively scan your inbox: UnFold’s integration only inspects an email that you are actively and visibly viewing on mail.google.com, and only when you execute a manual trigger.
  • We do not store the final content of your communications: Your completed, sent emails remain strictly within your personal email client. UnFold acts purely as a drafting assistant.
  • We do not collect cross-context web history: UnFold operates exclusively on mail.google.com and its own internal account pages.

3. How We Use the Information

We process your data strictly for the following limited purposes:
  • To maintain your personal, historical logs.
  • To operate and debug core extension functionalities, such as managing user-directed triggers and internal account states.
  • To enforce our Terms of Service and maintain platform integrity.
  • To generate the anonymized, aggregated industry trend insights described in Section 5.

4. Data Storage and Retention Architecture

UnFold utilizes a strict architectural separation designed to separate who you are from the system metrics recorded.
  • Active Retention: We retain your account information and saved history logs only while your account remains active.
  • Deletion Commitment: You retain the right to delete your personal records at any time. Upon account closure or record deletion, UnFold will immediately purge or de-identify all Personally Identifiable Information (PII) from its active production databases.
  • Backup Lifecycle: Residual data remaining within automated system backups will be securely overwritten and permanently erased according to our standard 30-day rotation cycle.

5. Aggregate Labor-Market Insights & Monetization

We do not sell, rent, or lease your personal information or individual data records to any third party. To support systemic accountability, public-interest research, and professional analysis, UnFold may generate, license, or provide access to an anonymized, aggregated dataset to third parties — including civil rights researchers, journalists, and professional organizations. This dataset consists strictly of macro-level market metrics (e.g., “Employer X had a 40% non-response rate to transparency inquiries in Q2”). These datasets are engineered to minimize the risk of re-identification, contain zero personal identifiers, utilize generalized job categories, and truncate all timestamps to month/year. The commercialization of these aggregate industry insights does not constitute a sale of your personal data.

6. Third-Party Service Providers

We share data with foundational technical infrastructure providers only to the extent necessary to deliver the platform’s core functions:
  • Supabase, Inc.: Provides our secure, encrypted database and authentication infrastructure.
  • Anthropic, PBC: For users utilizing advanced custom drafting features, relevant message context is securely passed to the Claude API strictly at the moment of an explicit user interaction to return a text template. Third-party LLM models do not train on your data.
We do not partner with consumer data brokers, behavioral advertising networks, or cross-context tracking platforms.

7. Territorial Restrictions (U.S. Residents Only)

UnFold is intended exclusively for residents of the United States and for use within the United States. The platform is built entirely around U.S. legal and transparency frameworks. We do not knowingly collect data from, or represent compliance with, international data regimes (such as the European Union’s GDPR or United Kingdom data laws). Use of this service outside the United States is unauthorized, and international users who circumvent these regional restrictions do so at their own risk and are in violation of the Terms of Service for UnFold.

8. Your Choices and Rights

Regardless of your state of residence, UnFold provides equitable data control tools directly within the extension interface:
  • The Right to Access & Export: You can review your logged histories at any time or download a compiled structural export of your records directly via the extension menu.
  • The Right to Delete: You can delete individual logs or close your entire account instantly through the user interface, triggering the automatic PII purge described in Section 4.
